Dior Sauvage Extrait is an intense woody fragrance for men built around Vietnamese oud, Indonesian patchouli, Madagascan vetiver, Virginia cedarwood, Provence lavender, and bergamot. As the first Extrait de Parfum in the Dior Sauvage collection, it takes the familiar fresh aromatic DNA of Sauvage in a much darker, denser, and more sensual direction.

Created by Dior Perfume Creative Director Francis Kurkdjian, Sauvage Extrait centers on precious Vietnamese oud with leathery, animalic facets, contrasted by smoky patchouli, creamy woods, and a fresh aromatic opening. The fragrance is matured and macerated for 42 days, creating what Dior describes as an exceptionally powerful and long-lasting interpretation of Sauvage.

What Does Dior Sauvage Extrait Smell Like?

Dior Sauvage Extrait opens with Calabrian bergamot and lavender from Provence, preserving the fresh, aromatic character associated with the Sauvage line. The opening is bright and refined before quickly revealing a much richer woody profile.

At the center is Vietnamese oud, which brings deep, warm, leathery, and slightly animalic facets. Dior notes that this particular oud also reveals nuances reminiscent of honey and frankincense, giving the fragrance additional richness and complexity.

The dry-down combines Indonesian patchouli, Madagascan vetiver, and Virginia cedarwood, creating a dense contrast between dark smoky woods and smoother, creamier woody facets. Overall, Sauvage Extrait smells woody, aromatic, smoky, leathery, earthy, fresh, and intensely masculine.
